Nevada Expeditions Adventure Series

presented in partnership with Churchill County Parks & Recreation

Beginning in 2022, I have had the opportunity to partner with CCPR and offer guided trips in and around Churchill County's outback. On the trips, we get off the pavement and visit various local historic sites.

General Information:
• Cost/vehicle is $25.00
• 4x4/High Clearance Recommended (No ATVs/OHVs at this time)
• Participants should pack their own meals/snacks
• Be prepared for all weather conditions, and bring necessary supplies (sunscreen, hats, jackets, etc)
• As we are traversing undeveloped terrain, restrooms often do not exist on the trail. Plan accordingly.
• Hazards, including mine shafts and wildlife, may be encountered along the trip.

All trips meet at the Rafter 3C Event Complex, 325 Sheckler Rd, Fallon, NV 89406 and depart at 8:30am.

Upcoming Trips

  • We're opening the season with a trip to two of Churchill County's earliest townsites: Stillwater and La Plata. Both of these towns even served as the county seat during Nevada's first fifty years of statehood! Along the way, we'll be following part of the Pony Express trail that later evolved into one of America's first transcontinental highways. We'll also make a stop at the Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge, so don't forget the bug spray!

  • July's trip will take us to the mountains of central Pershing County, where we'll visit a few ghost towns dating to Nevada's Territorial days. This will be about a 225-mile round trip to and from Fallon, and we will be making a fuel stop for anybody who needs it. Please plan on bringing a lunch.

  • Due to the heat-related cancellation of our July trip, we have added a new trip in August. I'm excited to announce that this time we'll be joined by trail historian Stephen Knight of Trails West, Inc. as we follow in the tracks of emigrants across the treacherous and notorious 40 Mile Desert.

  • This month, we're taking off to the Antelope Springs District to explore remnants of a few mercury mines from the 1930s.

  • Due to scheduling conflicts, the October date has been rescheduled to the 20th!

We'll be closing out the 2024 season with a trip to the famed ghost town of Pine Grove.
